Update: Preparation for Hurricane Harvey

Greetings, Friends:

Hurricane Harvey continues to intensify and may be the nation’s first Category 3 landfall in almost 12 years. This event will bring dangerous storm-surge flooding and destructive winds this weekend that could leave parts of the area uninhabitable for an extended period of time.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has declared a disaster for 35 Texas counties.

A prolonged heavy rain event is likely for the affected areas and will persist into early next week. It is likely some areas will see 10-15 inches of rain, with some spots getting over 25″.

We need your help!! The flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey will leave many people stranded and experience tells us a disproportionate number of them are people with disabilities and older adults. We’re rallying stakeholders and working together to help get people to safety, and begin providing for any immediate needs they may have for durable medical equipment and other assistive technology. We hope you’ll consider supporting Portlight’s work, and sharing this email with friends and family.

Nothing we do is possible without you, and as always, we’re eternally grateful for your continued support!!!
